HACKATAO × Crypto Stamp Art — Psyche
The mind of Sigmund Freud in four motifs
Sigmund Freud and the human psyche in four Hackatao motifs — 10,000 soulbound stamps on Polygon.
The Crypto Stamp Art Hackatao — Psyche of 3 June 2026 is the fifth CSA edition by Österreichische Post (CSA5) and the third collaboration with the Italian crypto art duo Hackatao (Sergio Scalet + Nadia Squarci). 10,000 stamps explore the mind of Sigmund Freud and the architecture of the human psyche across four motifs of 2,500 pieces each: The Analyst, The Dreamer, Eros and Thanatos. Price EUR 21.80. Like the Sisi (CSA3) and Creative Minds (CSA4) editions, Psyche is issued as a soulbound token on Polygon — the physical stamp and its NFT are inseparably linked and can only be transferred together. Note: Psyche (CSA5) is a distinct edition from Creative Minds (CSA4, Mozart & Hedy Lamarr, 2025) — the two must not be conflated.

About CSA Hackatao — Psyche
The Crypto Stamp Art Hackatao — Psyche edition of 3 June 2026 is the fifth CSA edition by Österreichische Post (CSA5) and the third collaboration with the Italian crypto art duo Hackatao (Sergio Scalet and Nadia Squarci). After the Habsburg history of Sisi (CSA3, 2024) and the Austrian geniuses of Creative Minds (CSA4, 2025), Psyche turns inward — to Sigmund Freud and the architecture of the human mind.
Third Hackatao Collaboration
Psyche makes Hackatao the first artist to receive three consecutive Crypto Stamp Art editions. The relationship, established with Sisi and consolidated with Creative Minds, has become a long-term pillar of the CSA programme. Hackatao continue to interpret Austrian subjects through an international crypto art lens while applying their signature yin-yang tension — here rendered literally as the Eros/Thanatos drive pair.
Concept: Freud and the Psyche
Sigmund Freud (1856–1939), the Vienna-based founder of psychoanalysis, is among the most globally influential figures Austria has produced. The edition title "Psyche" works on two levels: the Greek personification of the soul, and the psychoanalytic object of study. Hackatao map Freud's model of the mind across four motifs — the method, the dream, and the two opposing drives that Freud placed at the centre of his late theory of the human being.
The Four Motifs
The edition comprises 10,000 stamps in 4 motifs of 2,500 pieces each:
1. The Analyst
Freud himself, at work — the founder of psychoanalysis as interpreter of the unconscious. Hackatao render the iconic figure with cigar and analytic couch in their surreal-flat style. This is the canonical Freud, the method personified.
2. The Dreamer
A homage to The Interpretation of Dreams (1900), which Freud called the "royal road to the unconscious". Hackatao visualise dream logic as floating, shifting imagery — the mind at its least guarded.
3. Eros
The life drive — libido and the pleasure principle. In Freud's late dual-drive theory, Eros is the force of connection, creativity and survival. Hackatao render it in vivid crimson energy, the counter-pole to Thanatos.
4. Thanatos
The death drive, introduced in Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920). The dark counterweight to Eros, representing dissolution and the pull toward the inanimate. Hackatao depict mortality in shadowed, near-monochrome tones.
Animation
As with the Sisi and Creative Minds editions, the digital NFT versions are animated (mp4), each paired with a WebP still used as the poster frame.
Soulbound Token
Psyche is issued as a soulbound token (SBT) on Polygon — an NFT that cannot be transferred independently of the physical stamp. Selling the physical piece requires transferring the NFT, and vice versa. First introduced to crypto stamps with the Hackatao Sisi edition (CSA3), the mechanic is now the established standard across the Crypto Stamp Art programme.
- No wallet-to-wallet transfer: the NFT remains bound to the stamp
- Sale only as a set: physical and digital transfer together
- Authenticity protection: forgeries are identifiable through missing NFT access
Distinct from Creative Minds (CSA4)
Psyche (CSA5) must not be confused with the preceding Creative Minds edition (CSA4, 4 June 2025), which celebrates Mozart and Hedy Lamarr. Both are Hackatao soulbound editions of 10,000 stamps (2,500 per motif) at EUR 21.80 on Polygon, but they are separate editions with different contracts, motifs and release years. Creative Minds looks outward to two Austrian icons; Psyche looks inward to the structure of the mind.
Significance in Crypto Stamp History
CSA Hackatao Psyche marks several developments:
- First three-in-a-row artist: Hackatao's third consecutive CSA edition
- Interior turn: from historical figures to the theory of the mind itself
- Literal yin-yang: the Eros/Thanatos pair makes the duality concept explicit
- Soulbound as standard: the SBT mechanic is now a settled expectation
- Continued internationalisation: a globally legible subject in Freud
The Psyche edition confirms the Crypto Stamp Art line as a maturing, concept-driven programme with a stable artist relationship and an increasingly universal thematic reach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Hackatao?
Hackatao is an Italian artist duo consisting of Sergio Scalet and Nadia Squarci, active in the crypto art scene since 2018. Their works have been exhibited at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and Sotheby's in London. Stylistically they combine surrealist floating techniques (Sergio) with super-flat pop styles (Nadia). Psyche is their third Crypto Stamp Art collaboration with Österreichische Post, after Sisi (CSA3, 2024) and Creative Minds (CSA4, 2025).
What is a soulbound token?
A soulbound token (SBT) is an NFT that cannot be transferred independently — it is bound to the physical stamp. Anyone selling the physical stamp must also transfer the NFT, and vice versa. First introduced to crypto stamps with the Hackatao Sisi edition (CSA3), the mechanic is now the established standard across the Crypto Stamp Art programme, including Psyche.
Why Sigmund Freud and the psyche as the theme?
Sigmund Freud (1856–1939), the Vienna-based founder of psychoanalysis, is one of Austria's most globally influential figures — a natural fit for the Crypto Stamp Art line after the Habsburg (Sisi) and Austrian-genius (Creative Minds) themes. The four motifs map Freud's model of the mind: The Analyst (the method), The Dreamer (dream interpretation) and the dual drives Eros (life) and Thanatos (death). The "Psyche" title plays on both the Greek personification of the soul and the psychoanalytic subject.
How does Psyche (CSA5) differ from Creative Minds (CSA4)?
They are two separate editions and must not be conflated. Creative Minds (CSA4, 4 June 2025) celebrates Mozart and Hedy Lamarr across four motifs. Psyche (CSA5, 3 June 2026) is a distinct, later edition themed on Sigmund Freud and the human psyche (The Analyst, The Dreamer, Eros, Thanatos). Both are Hackatao soulbound editions of 10,000 stamps (2,500 per motif) at EUR 21.80 on Polygon, but they carry different contracts, motifs and release years.
