Closed safe door with two hidden symbols (Magic Book, Treasure)

The NL Crypto Stamp Safe Dragon was issued on 25 March 2025 by PostNL as a Safe solo edition with a morphing mechanic. The motif depicts a closed safe door hiding one of two symbols: Magic Book or Treasure (1,500 pieces each, total mintage 3,000). About the NL Crypto Stamp Safe Dragon

The NL Crypto Stamp Safe Dragon of 25 March 2025 is a solo Safe edition by PostNL with a morphing mechanic. It applies the Safe concept — first introduced by PostNL with the 2023 NL Crypto Stamp Safe — to the 2024 NL Crypto Stamp 3 Dragon, moving the mechanic from the Lion to the Dragon line.

Structural Feature: Morphing Mechanic

The central feature of the Safe Dragon is the morphing mechanic — an irreversible NFT transformation:

What Happens During Morphing?

The process combines an NL Crypto Stamp 3 Dragon NFT (2024) with an NL Crypto Stamp Safe Dragon NFT. When the Safe NFT is opened, its hidden symbol becomes visible and is applied to the dragon motif. The resulting new NFT replaces both original NFTs permanently and irreversibly — the original NFTs are gone forever.

Total mintage is 3,000 pieces, split evenly across the two motifs.

Position in the NL Crypto Stamp Line

The Safe Dragon is PostNL's second Safe edition and its second use of the morphing mechanic:

Collector Strategy: Morph or Keep?

As with the 2023 Safe, the Safe Dragon presents a decision. Morphing produces a unique new dragon motif and permanently consumes both the Safe and Dragon NFTs. Keeping the originals preserves the mainstream Dragon NFT and the Safe NFT as separate collectibles. Because morphing destroys originals, every morphing action makes the remaining un-morphed Dragons and Safes scarcer.

Significance for PostNL

The Safe Dragon confirms that the morphing mechanic is a recurring part of PostNL's crypto stamp program rather than a one-off. By pairing each Safe edition with a mainstream motif, PostNL builds cross-selling into its release cadence: collectors who want the full morphing experience buy both the mainstream Dragon and the Safe Dragon.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the morphing mechanic work for the Safe Dragon?

Anyone owning an NL Crypto Stamp Safe Dragon NFT and an NL Crypto Stamp 3 Dragon NFT (2024) can combine both. The Safe NFT is opened, the hidden symbol (Magic Book or Treasure) becomes visible and is applied to the dragon motif. The resulting new NFT replaces both original NFTs in a permanent and irreversible process. The mechanic carries over the concept of the 2023 NL Crypto Stamp Safe but transfers it from the Lion to the Dragon edition.

What sets the Safe Dragon apart from the 2023 Safe?

The 2023 Safe morphed with the NL Crypto Stamp 2 Lion and had three symbols (Dummy, Bottle, Rainbow). The 2025 Safe Dragon morphs with the NL Crypto Stamp 3 Dragon and has two symbols (Magic Book, Treasure) at 1,500 pieces each — a transparent total mintage of 3,000, unlike the 2023 Safe, whose mintage was not fully communicated. Both are Safe solo editions applying the same irreversible morphing idea to different mainstream motifs.

How many Safe Dragons exist and what did they cost?

The total mintage is 3,000 pieces, split evenly across two motifs: 1,500 Magic Book and 1,500 Treasure. The retail price was EUR 11.30 per piece. This makes the Safe Dragon a small, clearly capped Safe release — well below the mintages of the mainstream color editions.
