NFT artist collaborations, standalone program since 2022 · 2022
Crypto Stamp Art (CSA) — Artist Collaborations of Österreichische Post
Crypto Stamp Art (CSA) is the artist collaboration program of Österreichische Post AG. Unlike the mainstream editions that are developed in-house or with classical philatelic designers, the CSA line collaborates with internationally renowned crypto art artists. So far four editions: Pr1mal Cypher Mercury (2022), FVCKRENDER Alpine Star + Eternal Flower (2023), Hackatao Sisi & Franz Joseph (2024), and Hackatao Mozart & Hedy Lamarr (2025). The 2024 edition first used soulbound tokens.

What is Crypto Stamp Art?
Crypto Stamp Art (CSA) is the artist collaboration program of Österreichische Post AG — a standalone program line within the crypto stamp universe specifically aimed at the international crypto art scene. Unlike the mainstream editions (animal motifs, Bull, Lion, Dragon) that are developed in-house or with classical philatelic designers, the CSA line collaborates with internationally renowned NFT artists.
The ANK classification lists CSA as ANK Crypto Stamp Number 12 — a standalone classification position in the Austrian stamp systematics.
Program History
The CSA program has produced four editions over four years to date:
1. PR1MAL CYPHER — Mercury (July 2022)
22 July 2022 was the launch of the very first CSA edition: Pr1mal Cypher (pseudonym of Encode Graphics) reinterpreted the "Red Mercury" — Austria's most valuable stamp, originally issued in 1851. The edition consisted of 2,500 mystery boxes with 4 NFT variants of Mercury each (a total of 8 different color values with different probabilities). Buyers also received a physical special stamp block "Der Merkur: 1851 – 2022" and a special art stamp.
Structurally remarkable: the CSA premiere was a mystery box — a format popular in the NFT space where buyers learn the exact contents only after purchase. Österreichische Post thus adopted a proven NFT distribution mechanic from the crypto art world.
2. FVCKRENDER — Alpine Star + Eternal Flower (July 2023)
27 July 2023 the second CSA edition was launched. Canadian crypto art artist FVCKRENDER created two thematically connected works:
- Alpine Star (3 variants of 222 pieces each = 666 total) — homage to edelweiss as Austria's national flower
- Eternal Flower (3 variants of 111 pieces each = 333 total) — the "eternal flower," a reference to the imperishable form of the dried edelweiss
The distribution model was innovative: buyers acquired the NFT, then received the physical material after a snapshot date (31 August 2023) — a reversal of the traditional stamp logic. The Eternal Flower box additionally contained an original chainlink sculpture by the artist.
In sales terms, this edition was more reserved than the Mercury premiere — only Eternal Flower V3 sold out quickly.
3. Hackatao — Sisi & Franz Joseph (December 2024)
12 December 2024 brought the third CSA edition. Italian crypto art duo Hackatao (Sergio Scalet + Nadia Squarci) interpreted the iconic Habsburg figures Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph I. The edition comprises 10,000 stamps in 4 motifs of 2,500 pieces each:
- Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi alive)
- Franz Joseph I. of Austria (Franz Joseph alive)
- Sisi Skull (Habsburg funeral rite, Sisi dead)
- Franz Skull (Habsburg funeral rite, Franz Joseph dead)
Retail price 21.80 EUR per stamp.
The soulbound token concept was introduced here for the first time: the digital NFT is physically and inseparably bound to the stamp. Anyone selling the physical stamp must also transfer the NFT. This mechanic addresses a core problem of the NFT world — the possible separation of authenticity and ownership.
4. Hackatao — Mozart & Hedy Lamarr (June 2025)
4 June 2025 at NFC Lisbon 2025 the second Hackatao collaboration was presented. Hackatao returned with two "kindred spirits": Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (musical genius) and Hedy Lamarr (Hollywood diva and inventor of frequency hopping technology). 10,000 stamps in 4 motifs:
- Mozart der Maestro (classical Mozart portrait)
- Amadeus der Prankster (playful Mozart)
- Lamarr der Star (Hollywood Lamarr)
- Hedy the Mind (inventor Lamarr)
The choice was strategic: Mozart and Lamarr are both globally known Austrians with global appeal — an extension of the collector market away from purely Austrian collectors toward Mozart fans, science historians, and feminism-interested audiences worldwide.
Design Principles of the CSA Program
The CSA program follows several recognizable design principles:
1. Artist selection through crypto art reputation. Pr1mal Cypher, FVCKRENDER, and Hackatao are all established in the international NFT scene (FVCKRENDER with high six-figure NFT sales on SuperRare, Hackatao active in crypto art since 2018 with Hermitage and Sotheby's exhibitions).
2. Austrian themes as source of inspiration. Despite international artists, the subjects remain Austrian-anchored: Red Mercury (stamp heritage), edelweiss (national flower), Sisi & Franz Joseph (Habsburg history), Mozart & Lamarr (Austrian geniuses). "Austrian identity" is thus reinterpreted through international eyes.
3. Phygital concept. CSA editions are consistently "phygital" — physical and digital artifacts as inseparable units. This mechanic was formalized in 2024 with the soulbound token.
4. Mystery / surprise / box as distribution mechanic. CSA editions experiment with NFT-typical distribution methods unusual in the mainstream world (stamp collector world): mystery boxes (Mercury), snapshot distribution (FVCKRENDER), soulbound tokens (Hackatao).
5. High-quality physical accompanying materials. Unlike mainstream crypto stamps (classical stamp size), CSA buyers typically receive additional materials: art prints, vignettes, sculptures, mystery boxes — bringing CSA editions closer to classical art editions.
Market Position and Secondary Market
CSA editions position themselves price-wise higher than mainstream crypto stamps (typically 9.90 EUR) but lower than gold editions (500 EUR):
- Mercury Mystery Box (2022): ~50-100 EUR retail price (estimated, depending on box content)
- FVCKRENDER NFTs (2023): NFT market prices (variable)
- Hackatao Sisi (2024): 21.80 EUR retail price
- Hackatao Mozart (2025): comparable price point
On the secondary market, CSA editions circulate with varying performance:
- Mercury Mystery Box and Hackatao Sisi achieve premium values (10-20x retail price for rare variants)
- FVCKRENDER Alpine Star circulates close to original price (lower collector demand)
- Hackatao Mozart is too young for stable secondary market valuation
Position in the Crypto Stamp Universe
CSA is the most demanding and curated program line of Österreichische Post — an attempt to position the crypto stamp brand not only as collectible but as a curated crypto art program. The choice of renowned artists signals: crypto stamps are not only philatelic collector items but can be received as contemporary art editions.
This positioning has two important implications:
-
Art market connection. CSA editions can appear at art fairs, in galleries, and at auction houses — not only in stamp auctions. Österreichische Post thus dramatically expands the potential collector pool.
-
Brand premium. The collaboration with established crypto artists (Hackatao with Hermitage and Sotheby's CV) lends the entire crypto stamp brand additional cultural premium — even beyond the CSA editions.
CSA is thus not merely another program but a strategic move: the crypto stamp brand is culturally charged through international artist collaborations.
